That Wonder
“St. Joseph was an ordinary sort of man on whom God relied to do great things. He did exactly what the Lord wanted him to do, in each and every event that went to make up his life.” - Josemaria Escriva
“When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.” Matthew 1:25
I find Joseph fascinating, his faith and belief in what God asked of him is such an model of a righteous man. His story inspires me as a dad and as a husband…of all the people I want to meet in heaven…he’s at the top of the list. I pray that as you read this poem you will catch a glimpse of that wonder he must have felt that night. Blessings, Jay
That Wonder
I held you close for the
first time tonight.
The Angel spoke to me
of your birth.
Dream talk made no mention
of how I would love you so.
Could it be, my little son
Messiah?
Even now my heart bows
to that wonder.
I will serve as father in
an earthly manner.
The days given me, now
belong to him.
I cup the face of God in
my rough hands.
I see the light of the world
reflected deep in newborn eyes.
Even now my spirit bows
to that wonder.
